Discussion topic for the Article Mais où se cache Carmen Sandiego?

If you have anything to add, don't hesitate.  Better yet, if you've played the game, tell us about it!

Where can I get this game?  Is it really only available in France?

The press info somewhere said they would release it in all French speaking countries.  That must include Canada too, Tommy.  Although, I would imagine, the best place to get this game is online.

Where in the press release does it say it'll be released in all French speaking areas? I downloaded the official press release from carmensandiego.fr and while my French vocabulary/reading comprehension skills are not the best, nowhere does it say it'll be released in all French speaking areas.

As for importing the game...I am not exactly sure and I've never done it myself, so the first step I'll do is absolve myself of anyone's irresponsibility. From reading Amazon.fr's help FAQs, apparently using Amazon.com's 1-Click service will let you import the game into the US. Here's the page that says so. Don't be afraid, it's in English.

However, just because you can import it doesn't mean you should...the DS version, while region-free, is €39.95. Using Yahoo's currency converter, that comes out to roughly $55 USD. The PC version, at €29.99, will set you back the equivalent of $41 USD.

Best to wait and see when the game comes to the US (or at least Canada) given that the ESRB has yet to fix that leaky problem of theirs.

Sorry, this topic breezed past, I didn't see it.  To clarify what Pru wrote, the game will be released in all French-speaking countries 'first'.  The game itself is in French/English.

When we went in to this, dear CJ, I believe we all knew what we were going to get coming out of it.

The first of the reviews went up a few days back: http://tr.im/csrvfr

Je vous préviens tout de suite: il n'y a rien de surprenant, juste la norme...

Would that be countries where French is an official or otherwise predominant language in Europe (France, Belgium, Switzerland, etc.), or ALL French-speaking countries?

The reason why I'm asking that is because I'm fairly sure Canada follows the ESRB ratings systems, from the ESRB website (specifically this one):

Are all games required to have a rating?

The rating system is voluntary, although virtually all games that are sold at retail in the U.S. and Canada are rated by the ESRB. Many retailers, including most major chains, have policies to only stock or sell games that carry an ESRB rating, and most console manufacturers will only permit games that have been rated by ESRB to be published for their platforms.

That I don't know.  The game is created by Mindscape, whose corporate HQ is in France and has subsidaries all over EU, Australia/NZ, and Canada.  All US distribution rights go to Encore, Inc. -- a completely different company.  It's odd if they released the game in Canada and not the US... just seems like a marketing flaw somehow.

Your guess is as good as mine.  I know that translating the game into English was a surprise, it's a first for Mindscape and was probably a last-minute decision.

French to English translation was rather "lukewarm"?  Mm, and at times, dialog displayed near-obvious useage of a translation software.  This shall be the first game I treat as a "foreign film".

Yep, that's the same game as the ones released in February in Europe.  If you played 1 & 2, you'll know 3 wasn't really a continuing of the first 2 games. Weird :P

Why didn't they add voices to the game characters?

Cause probably once they add the voices, it'd be in French, and they'd have to hire English-speaking voice actors for release in other countries.  Did you play it on the PC or the DS?
