Long story, sir. It relates to microchips, and silly adolescent beliefs. Really, who wasn't silly in some way in high school? Silly enough to think that virtual reality could be real, if only nerves could be attached to microchips, and silly enough to try it. Yeah, that was painful... Didn't work, for the record.
